"Ever since I started giving my first baby steps in art, I have been drawn to the traditional clothing that we make in Salcaja, one of the very first Spanish settlements in Guatemala known for its colorful typical fabrics, rich in imagery, that are so special and have influenced me to paint my landscapes. In this search I wanted my art work to be different, I wanted to integrate the traditional color. In the beginning the result was very picturesque but . I was looking for an expression that was unique and authentic, in which I, Sergio Alvarado would be reflected and identified. Art for me is very profound and in my constant search I found a mode
of expression that led me to what I am working at present. On further profoundization I converted my landscapes into something very “typical” (tipiquisimo), which is the name I have baptized my style with. So “Tipiquisimo” is a derivation of the traditional clothing we elaborate in Salcaja and I consider myself a weaver of art."
